110 Pentax 24mm Lens test

Considering the image size of the 110 Instamatic was 17x13mm, so that a lens for that camera could able to perform like this on the 35mm full size was rather amazing.  (In fact, inevitable corner fall off is creating even nicer atmosphere)

Such a small lens on a small mirrorless camera is very handy though, to be honest, such convenience makes rather casual attitude of the shooting, and often produce unsharp / blurred image.  I often create blurred image though, it was “when I intended” —– otherwise, it was nothing but a failure.  (another trouble was, that against such small lens, the shutter shock of A7R is comparatively big = tend to make blurred image)

Such pictures may not have any artistic value still, if we could read the name etc. the details on the goods, there might be a bit more interest.

I wouldn’t pretend any meaning on those images, —– just an atmosphere.

And may be a kind of the test of the lens character.

This photo showed rather interesting phenomenon.  The center is not as sharp as its surroundings = the lens may be showing the curvature of the image.  —– But, I don’t believe such as like the Pentax made a lens having an image curvature.   This got to be what they intended =  intended what = to compensate the curvature of the film.

I think, other than the Pentax design team, not many people has tested this lens on the camera other than the dedicated  Pentax 110 Auto  body.   Naturally,  the test on the 110 Auto was done by an Instamatic Caset film = which may have inherited curvature of the film though it has been compensated by the lens’ own image curvature.   It’s mean, nobody was able to notice the image curvature of this lens before.  (other than the very Pentax design team) —– How interesting.   😀

110 Pentax 24mm Lens (2)

I realized that the tiny toy like Pentax 110 camera’s 24 mm F2.8 lens appeared to be very critical lens.  What I mean critical is, as it was designed by the Pentax, aiming to achieve their 110 photo’s quality comparable to full size 35 mm, so the quality of the lens is very high —– and it’s requirement / the standard must be also high.

In this blog, I’ve been plying with hundred of tinkering job, —– though, its standard is pretty casual.  I’m doing it in my kitchen, without having even an optical bench.  And I demonstrated that how the standard of the optics can be not critical. = typically like “Twisted lens” demonstration or  “F-Aperture control” kind. —– still I could manage those tinkering with good success.   So, when I adapted 110 24mm lens to Sony A7R body, I just made a hole in a Sony’s body cap and inserted the bottom of the 24mm lens then fixed it by Epoxi glue.  I thought, I’ve adjusted infinity very well (as A7R’s focus peaking works perfect) —– but later, I noticed that the focus was not even = left side was out.

110 Pentax(2)_DSC0481-003

110 Pentax(3)-002

Yet, the slant of the lens was barely visible = the lens may not off the straight perpendicular less than 1 degree —– though, lens was short focus 24mm, and it got front focus system, of which only 2mm of front lens shift makes the focus from infinity to 0.35m.  It’s mean, even less than 0.1mm off position on one side would spoil sharp infinity image. (Especially, here the lens is always fully open F2.8)

There was a funny paradox here.  24mm lens for 110 Pentax was a standard lens, = obviously, the lens for 110 Pentax was expecting to be used and worked as a standard lens.  But the same 24mm lens for 35mm camera was a very wide-angle. Therefore, while 24mm lens for Nikon was having distance scale  ∞, 3, 1.5, 1, 0.7 —m, 24mm lens for 110 Pentax has much finer scale  ∞, 8, 4, 2, 1.5, 1, —m,  and the focus seemed to be also quite critical.  (But, to fully satisfy those potential in the Pentax Auto 110 needs to have very delicate, fine handling while see the image in its small SLR view finder —– though, as the 110 body here was broken and I couldn’t see the finder image, I can’t tell if their aim to make hi-quality image was materialized by this system as a whole or not.

Rather Blured image

Ultimately, on the photography, it is irrelevant to know the name of the camera.  Since, the matter is its end result = image.  (Yet still, if you want to know, those photos here were taken by the Kodak Vest Pocket Camera lens on the Sony A7R body.)

(Incidentally, do you noticed that the guys behind the gate of the Downing street holding a machine-gun.) —– now you must be convinced, that they looks like holding one, —– don’t they ?   In deed they really looks like so.  (you know it’s all in your mind —– you are only seeing my dubious picture)   😀

So, we are seeing what we want to see.

110 Pentax Lens on A7R

OMG, —– I found a EOS 620 body and a tiny Pentax 110 (both of them were broken junk state) for hefty £5 in the odds & ends box of the City Camera Exchange, Strand Shop.  (They got the best junk in London as well as the latest expensive cameras, and if you feel hungly, you can have the best lunch or dinner in the Simpsons, only few steps round a corner.)   😀

EOS body may be used as a display dummy for my (Canon mount) homemade lens, and the tiny 110 Pentax lens, should make a good fun to test it.

To test this Pentax lens on Sony A7R body was very easy = just mount the tiny lens on an A7R body cap — Infinity focus was happened to be almost straight.  (but there is no Iris as the camera was designed to give an Auto-exposure by Aperture and the Shutter speed combined system.  = So, the lens works as a 24mm F2.8 only lens, and the focus works very well. (If your finger is small enough to pinch its small lens front)   😀

As the lens is rather bright F2.8 = focused depth is quite shallow yet still, the image where focused was very sharp and crisp.   Though, since the lens was designed for 110 Instamatic size, image circle doesn’t cover the 35mm full screen of course.   (and I wouldn’t attempt to make it Retro-focus with a concave lens to spread the image.)

Don’t to be fooled, even if the camera, lens were such small, like a children’s toy,  Pentax seemed to designed its lens with their full force. = image was such crisp = I would say, too prosaic !  The lens showed no chromatic aberration, in fact it got no aberration at all.  (May be in reverse use, lens may work as a pretty good macro lens. —– I’ll test it on future.)

Still, such small lens on the small mirrorless camera is very comfortable and CUTE ! = I wouldn’t complain the dark surroundings.  Its a own character and a part of fun.

Following the previous post, this is the even more enigmatic piece.   In fact, I just lost a word and got my jaw dropped.       I’m not sure, whether I can call it a dance —– or just an expression happen to be on the body ?

(The viz looks quite dark and mysterious, even nightmarish. —– and that’s I like) The Art in this level would negate all the question such as where it came from or even who made this.  Though, the harsh reality is, we may not able to see the same, after some years or decade as the body of the performer will be lost.   Without the body, its controlled movement and its moment, this art couldn’t exist. —– should we feel sad ?  —– the even harsher reality is, the memory, and its container = brain will be also rotten in the same time.    Who said art is long ? —– (Youtube viz may last longer —– yet it’s horrifying to image, after all the living things extinct, still those video data will remain as the electronic form like a fossil stone.

Those two above were more like commercial dancing still showing some relation to the first piece.      (They are quite beautiful.)

What ? ? ?

Among the viz from the net, this is the one, made me puzzled the most. —– sound somewhat eastern Europe / gipsy ?  (the Brass sound even Mexican.    😀 )  —– Was this originated from southern India ? = it’s mean brought by the gipsy. —– then after many clicks, I discovered that, WITH MY AMAZEMENT, the music was  Polish folk-song.   Still, I don’t know where the style of the dancing came from, how the costume was designed etc.etc.  ? ? ?

(This one got only the same sound —– just give a hint of what they were !)

In the world, there are so many what we are completely out of imagination.

Moon by Non-telephoto lens

I took a picture of the Moon too many times = It’s the same moon for the millions of nights = So,  I’m rather weary to take out my 500mm lens = I just clicked a camera with the lens happen to be on.

The camera happen to be the Sony A7R with a modified Kodak Vest Pocket Camera lens on.  With this structure of the lens, we can not hope a good focus.  Still, whatsoever the picture was made as this.  (Since the Vest pocket camera had no focusing mechanism, I wonder how the picture of the moon looked like on the original camera ? —– I haven’t tested it yet.  Sorry.)

As the lens on A7R is easy to change, I put (yet again a modified) Zeiss Baby Ikonta camera’s 50mm lens. (This lens has front-focushing = And, it was set to infinity though, the image was not sharp at all. = You may say Don’t ask too much to 90 years old antic. —– generally this lens works well = but may not for a real infinity subject.)

(In both shots, the F-aperture was fully open,  VP = F6.6 / Ikonta was F4.5 and  1/250 or so shutter speed —– because I was not intended to make any sharp image = otherwise why do I used junk lens ? )

Morning Sky on Oct’ 2018

( 13-10-2018   / 06:04 —– by Zeiss Distagon 18mm F3.5 for Nikon on Nikon D850)

It seems this was the only second morning red sky in this autumn.  Whether it was the matter of the angle of the Sun or the clarity of the Air, we don’t have red sky in summer.

Wide Fun

1085th Post or yet another 8150

I noticed that on this blog, I published  1085 posts.  And this very  1085th post was that Southwark trouble, which went up to the Ombudsman. —– As a matter of fact, this IS the second time me to deal with Ombudsman.   On the time of the first occasion, the issue was potentially I could send the MP to impeachment.   One local politician who helped me to configure the complaint half the way, suddenly became aware of the grave implication, then dropped off the support while saying Oh, I don’t have time. —– Funnily enough it was the very moment this politician and the Party lost their political fortune.  So, the party lost local election, and that politician lost the seat too and never able to come back.  (It took another ten years for this party to regain the power in Southwark.)

Why 1085th was so much the matter, you may say. = This IS yet another strange phenomena of 8150 jinx.  It IS a kind of omen and the intervention of the fate (what Buddhists call Karma) which is telling me the significance of THE MATTER.  It could be a warning of a risk or a notice of their support.   Since I received this sign, I’ve been dealing with this current Southwark trouble with utmost heaviest priority and the caution.  So that, while dealing with the matter, I could find the crucial information or the evidences as if it was placed there for me to use.  (So the sound recording of the visitor’s words has been kept.)   In the other hand, if something became too difficult to access, such as Mail Daemon started to say “Couldn’t find the address” = such coincident was in fact a message “Don’t go there”.    Or, other side manage to make own mistake and blow up the scandal ( = such as demonstrated the Hacking and managed to perform the Extortion.)  —– (In the past, I found quite few people who has been implicated, suddenly died, such as Paul Foot etc.= Sound dubious though, as it has happened, it must be the proof of what the person did = the consequence of cause and the effect = So, I’m pretty thrilled, who come next ? —– I’m not playing with Karma, I just watch and analyzing how it works. )

———— There are many strange stories in the following “Related Post” or among the  collection of “8150 Story” in the right column category. —– (In principal, unlike Tantra sect, I don’t believe the super natural phenomena in the Buddhism, yet still, I was said to be borne under the protection of the Fire God (hence I don’t get ill neither meet any accident, so does the 8150 follow me), though, I don’t have a power to make share price up or pretty girl drop her pants ( = how shame = when I made this joke, one of my friend said to me that I was a luckiest man because I’ve been avoiding the worst possible trouble in our life in its first place —– though, Mahayana says, that the trouble itself IS a part of our Life) = power of Zen or Buddhism only works when we have absolutely no mind / no thinking / no intention while doing the work in due in our life.)

Council hacked into the Mail

I’ve been in fighting with Southwark Council in the past 20 years (?) = their harassment and my fighting back.   It seems they don’t like a person who doesn’t succumb under their muscle especially I was not a kind of  Afghan, Vietnamese refugee but a rare Japanese photo-journalist still live in their council flat.

Latest attack was not to repair my Central Heating on the time when England had very cold spell in this February to March. When the coldest spell ended they (repair service) sent me a mail saying Sorry for the delay. This words were the evidence of that it was not caused by a technical failure on the mailing system, but they has been intentionally ignored the request while having a full knowledge of the situation.  Normally, such kind of repair work is rather simple routine = could be done within few days like both-side of my neighbours —– but this time somebody must be schemed a blockage targeting only me.

Rice Beetle Blog COPY

(The corner of the room, the temperature must come down sub-zero = the plant has died.  Near the kitchen where I put an electric heater, it was 13 degree C —– Is this a condition for a man in 21st century London to live ? = This is in the Southwark.)  (Dead plant must horrify the judge in the Court ! —– mandatory step to take a Court action will be complete after the Ombudsman procedure and the Court is my old playing field !)

So the matter went into the Complaint procedure, first stage, second stage, then it should go to the Local government Ombudsman.   The Ombudsman is the independent body, appointed by the Queen.  The Council can not interfere the process. They would be investigated by the same power of Hi-Court.

The funny things was, when I started to type the online form for the Ombudsman, I received a mail from the Council Repair section which says that “the CH has been repaired” —– I know it.   But the matter I’m complaining IS the damage I’ve received during the winter time. The damage has done. I had to spend extra cost for the electric heating etc.   This IS the time they has to pay for the price of their conduct.

And the more serious matter which exposed here WAS how they know that I was going to send the complaint to the Ombudsman ?

Off course, online complaint system go through the computer mail system = BY HACKING INTO MY MAIL, THEY CAN SEE WHAT I’M DOING.

This IS the very serious matter. The local government, Southwark Council is hacking the people’s mail, in order to prevent their misconduct exposed to the Ombudsman !

This is the national scale scandal. (Are they such silly people ? While leaving such clear red-handed evidence ! — or, are they going to say that it was still a coincident ? )

In addition = (This must be as close as to the criminal level)

Cllr P * * * *

The leader Southwark Council

160 Tooley Street

London SE1 2QH

Dear Cllr P * * * *

Allow me to write you a letter unheralded. I, Y * * * is one of the resident in the Southwark and a tenant of your Council Housing since 2001.

Because of the matter seems to be potentially explosive, I decided to writ direct to you.

The matter is a behaviour of one of your staff Ms. N * * * * resident officer of  * * * Estate.

This woman started to visit me a year ago.   Since I’m not a British (Japanese / Ex-Journalist), live in this country since 1975 alone, (and now I’m * * years old) she might be worrying about what could happen when I die. So, asking me my emergency contact again and again (more than 5 times while all of my relatives are in Japan therefore no point to repeat the same question if not a cynical joke mocking me “lonely death” ) (You can check her past entry to her tablet or the report to her so-called manager)

Another point which may be relevant is, I’m also quite well known for artistic creation. So that, where to dispose those art pieces — or who inherit those ? May seems to be a problem though, the important point is, those matter is not your business. Don’t interfere my life.

Yesterday (21st August 2018) she came again and made the same question with a pretext of a tenancy check. And asking me, if I found where to put my Art pieces, and said “Give me some” then started to mention that the fire and safety check would order to dispose my things as a fire hazard or obstruction to fire-escape, as I’m having a lot of half-finished sculptures or the material for those work. (On top of that, as I am a well-known photographer / camera critics, I got many cameras / collection of vintage cameras etc as well. )

Here the serious question is, is it your normal practice the council officer ask the tenant to give away their possession under the threat of “Fire check” while hinting an eviction ?

Isn’t this nothing but an extortion ? Or asking a bribery isn’t it ?

I would like to know where is your stance.

And I should expect your prompt reply.

Dated this 22nd of August 2018
